Principal Investigator
Dr. S. R. Prabagaran indented to investigate biotechnological potential of microbes from extreme environments like Antarctica, Himalayas and Arsenic polluted areas of West Bengal and reported novel organisms like Bacillus indicus sp. nov., Amycolatopsis rifamycinica sp. nov., Marinomonas ushuaiansis sp. nov and Leifsonia,. Besides cultivable organisms, also constructed the 16S rRNA gene libraries from Ushuaia, Argentina and Hamta glacier, Himalayas which revealed existence of several uncultured organisms. During doctoral program, he explored on crystal protein distribution among Bacillus thuringiensis from different geological regions of Indian soils. He has 16 years of experience in research and 11 years in teaching
“Besides research and teaching, I wish to take science to the common public and school children. For every complex problem there is a simple solution through science”, says Prabagaran.
